Annual Fox Heath Adult Equitation Camp Completes!  Reported by Kathleen Kelley.
The 2nd annual Fox Heath Adult Equitation Camp was held from June 16 to June 20.  The group included many
familiar faces as well as some new ones.  Two first-time members to the adult group were Kate Pelusi who
temporarily moved in with her parents just so she’d be close enough to attend; and brand-new rider Debby Burgy,
who jumped in to the sport with both feet by signing up for the session.

After last year's success, expectations were pretty high but the campers were not to be disappointed.  Claire
Harris' daily riding lessons were exceptional!  Several challenging flat classes focused on precision movements like
turning on the forehand, shoulder in, shoulder out, and lead changes.  These were topped off at the end of the week
by a jumping class and the long trail ride everyone had been looking forward to.

There was much to learn outside the ring too.  Time dedicated to Arts and Crafts in last year’s session was
happily traded this year for hands-on time with the horses.  Everyone participated in show grooming, mane pulling,
applying leg wraps, and treating thrush.  During the jam-packed week, campers were able to shadow the farrier
as he fixed loose shoes and join the veterinarian for a superb lesson on floating teeth.  Becky Harris treated
everyone to a beautiful dressage demonstration and, after Claire discussed the rules and etiquette of fox hunting,
the group took on the role of "Whippers-In" while walking the hounds up and down the driveway.

The week drew to a close with everyone making plans for next year and begging for a second adult session this year.
Special thanks to Claire for preparing such a wonderful week and also to Jenna, Laurie, Becky and Deanna for
their valuable demonstrations.  The bar for next year has been set very high indeed!

Fox Heath Thursday Horse Show Series Begins!
The annual series of Thursday horse shows will begin at Fox Heath starting June 26th.  These shows
provide a wonderful opportunity for riders and horses to get accustomed to the show environment.
Various divisions range from Lead Line to Schooling Hunter.  In addition, Fox Heath's outside course
is used to provide an arena that is new and challenging to riders with only ring experience.  The format
is that of a formal horse show but in a friendly environment.

Upcoming Hunter Pace at Fox Heath! - May 25, 2008
Huntingdon Valley Hunt will sponsor its 18th Annual Hunter Pace on Sunday, May 25th, 2008 at Fox Heath.  Rain date is Monday, May 26th.  There will be divisions for: Junior, Family, & Open.  First place in each division will receive a prize, with each division also being awarded six ribbons.  Teams to ride a marked course laid over natural hunting country, using a safe pace as though hounds were running a line.  All obstacles are optional, and are between 2 to 3 feet.  All members of a team must complete the course for the team to be eligible for a ribbon.  The Hunter Pace provides a wonderful alternative to riding in the show ring.

Entry Fee is $35 per person, which includes a light lunch.  Teams of 2 or 3 to leave between 12 noon and 2pm.  No team may depart after 2pm.  For additional information, contact Claire Harris (215-598-7792) or Betsy Harris (215-343-6545).

Fox Heath at Kimberton Hunt Club's Annual Horse Show - May 4, 2008
Lead by their trainer, Mrs. Claire Harris, four of Fox Heath's senior riders and their horses partook in the 63rd Annual Horse Show sponsored by the Kimberton Hunt Club.  The day started with Shelley Hobson and Reformed turning in a fine performance in the Pre-Adult Division.  Next up was Deanna Yamasaki and Harrison turning in rock solid rounds in Section A of Adult Am Hunter.  We immediately rolled into Lauren Dunn and Kabel doing outstanding work in Section B of Adult Am Hunter.  Lauren Massi and Bentley brought the day to a powerful close in the Children's Hunter Horse Division.

All four riders and their horses received ribbons against very stiff competition!  Congratulations to all the Fox Heath riders and their trainer.

Fox Heath hosts the Huntingdon Valley Hunt Horse Show.
The drab colors of winter gave way to the festive hues of spring at Fox Heath on April 27, 2008.  The jumps and arenas were all done in an impressive array of colors and styles.  The weather was cool and the horses were ready to go.  Classes ranged from Lead Line to Jumpers.  HVH and Fox Heath thank all the participants and individuals who made the show such a success.

Cheshire Pony Club – Paper Chase April 19, 2008.    Reported by Kim Jankowitz.
On Saturday April 19th we loaded up the Fox Heath vans with our 7 horses, gear and tailgate goodies, and headed to the beautiful rolling countryside of Chester County to participate in the spring Cheshire Pony Club Paper Chase.  The event had been rained out the week before and we had our fingers crossed that their rain date would have good weather.  We were rewarded with a picture perfect afternoon with fabulous course footing.  Three teams of Fox Heath riders headed out on the 5-6 mile course that crossed open fields, small streams, and wooded forest with various log and coop jumps, all with easy go-arounds and beautiful scenery.

Following our ride, the horses were untacked, sponged down, and loaded on the vans for their afternoon snack from loaded hay nets.  The riders feasted on their tailgate goodies before packing up for the ride home.  A few days later, we checked the Pony Club website and discovered to our delight that all of our teams scored ribbons in their respective divisions!  This is quite an accomplishment considering there were over 200 riders in the event:

Mila Sklar on Crookshanks                   1st place Mid-Railers, Mixed Division
Hanna Swayze on Bucky
Lauren Massi on Bentley

Lori Russell on Grey Fox                      2nd place Mid-Railers, Senior Division
Kim Jankowitz on Winston

Steve Massi on Mighty Quinn                3rd place, Low-Railers, Senior Division
Bill McCullogh on King Arthur

What a bonus to a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by both the riders and their horses!

Many thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Harris for organizing the group and driving us to some of the prettiest riding country in the area.
